You may be aware of the many events taking place across the city for Heritage Open Days in September.
St Mary’s Church, Whitkirk are holding a new event this year as part of their Open Days which they hope will be of interest to the Friends:
“The Country House and the Parish Church: St Mary’s and Temple Newsam; Holy Angels and Hoar Cross”.
A talk by James Lomax, art historian and former curator of Temple Newsam House
Friday 10th September at 6.30pm in church; church and exhibition open from 6.00pm. Tea, coffee and biscuits available.
Whitkirk Church has a long association with the families who lived at Temple Newsam House and it seems especially apt to have this talk ahead of the 100 years’ anniversary next year of the acquisition of the house and park by Leeds City Council.
