Leeds Civic Trust launched a project this year inviting local community groups to paint a series of benches throughout the city with a theme that reflects the way the pandemic has brought communities together with the aid of the fresh air and nature in our parks and green spaces.
The Friends of Temple Newsam Park were selected as one of the groups to be involved with the project. The Trust provided the benches and financial support and the Friends decided to involve the children of Temple Newsam and Halton Primary School to create designs for the bench. The school staff were very supportive of the project and from the designs the children created, local artist, Emmeline North, interpreted their artwork and recreated it on the bench.
The project was equally supported by the staff at Temple Newsam and they have now installed the bench in the children’s playground area.
Also the children’s original artwork was reproduced onto 4 large banners which are on display in the Farm.
This is one of 15 Benches that have been created throughout the city and details can be found about them all from the Trust
